Motorized Shades Guide is an independent buying guide covering retrofit shade and blind automation, devices that clip onto a shade you already own rather than replacing it. We started this site because most coverage of this category is either manufacturer marketing or a single unboxing video, and the actual decision (does this work with your specific shades, and what does it cost once you add the accessories you'll actually want) is harder to find than it should be.
How we review
Our approach
- Product specs and pricing are pulled from each manufacturer's own published materials and dated at the time we write. Prices change, so we recommend confirming the current figure at checkout.
- Where we cite an independent source, government data, or third-party testing, we link directly to it rather than paraphrasing secondhand.
- We call out compatibility limits and honest tradeoffs even where they might argue against a purchase, chain type mismatches are the most common reason people end up returning a product in this category, and we'd rather you know that before you order.
